We are in our 12th year of the Kids Fun Run with Thomas, it was started by some of our Rotarians who saw a way for us to help those children less fortunate than ours – kids helping kids- because all the money raised goes to a designated charity for children. Over the years we have raised over $250, 000 dollars for the different charities – and this year all the proceeds go to CPEC – Cerebal Palsy Education centre in Glen Waverley.
CPEC is the only centre of its kind in Australia that specialises in supporting children with cerebral palsy and like conditions. CPEC supports over 110 children every year. The Children often start as babies and are offered support until they reach adulthood. The Centre intensive programs that include speech pathology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The children are supported across all areas of their daily lives, to give them the skills and confidence to learn, participate and grow.
The event is always held at the Gembrook Railway station, and this year it will be on Sunday the 23rd of November – it’s a great day for the whole family with not just the runners trying to beat Thomas, but there is loads of entertainment as well, there are clowns, and the wonderful Thomas hunt. Every child will receive a mystery bag, loaded with goodies – and as well as that, the day coincides with the wonderful Gembrook market- selling a variety of wonderful local and unique products, just in time for Christmas.
Kids Fun Run with Thomas is a Rotary event, in conjunction with Puffing Billy, and the wonderful and most generous support of our sponsors – Ferntree Gully Motor Group, Mitre 10/Barry Plant, Hornet Press, The Jefferson Automotive Group and a host of local sponsors.
